The Belmont Historical Society is celebrating its 40th year! In 1969 Belmont citizens formed the Historical Society to continue the good works accomplished that year of the community’s 100th founding anniversary. The group grew from a Selectmen-appointed committee, and was later recognized as a non-profit organization. You are cordially invited to join us this milestone year – to help build pride and participation in our community and heritage.

For the last four decades, Belmont Historical Society members and friends have given energy, time and talent to preserving our special places and stories. Saving and adapting the Belmont Mill for a new community life is just one difference the Belmont Historical Society has made.

Although Belmont has much to preserve, in and out of the National Register-eligible "Factory Village District," the society-owned Province Road Meeting House, built in 1792, remains a priority. The Meeting House served as the region’s first place for religious worship and progress continues to stabilize and repurpose the historic site. Recent progress has included a successful application for a New Hampshire Land Conservation Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP) grant, and the completion of building assessment plans and architectural drawings.
