The Belmont Historical Society has welcomed interest and new members since our 1969 founding in New Hampshire. Through programs and projects, we help build awareness and pride in local heritage. Dedicated to preserving and celebrating special places and stories, our current major project is restoring the Province Road Meeting House. It was built in 1792 and gifted to the Belmont Historical Society from the Third Free Will Baptist Society in 1979. A generous donation of land was also received in 2001 from the Raed Hertel Family Trust. Citizen support of volunteered time, labor and financial contributions, combined with an initial Land Conservation Heritage Investment Project (LCHIP) grant, expertise from the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance, and New Hampshire Humanities Council support - all reflect continuing progress. 2008 milestones include the 10th anniversary of the award-winning Belmont Mill, adaptive reuse and revitalization effort - and the centennial of the completion of the Bandstand, both located in the Village, near the National Register listed Public Library . |
